Hope you’re hungry! I have a post chock full of delicious culinary creations in store for you today!
We began planning our wedding reception menu a few months ago. For several reasons, we decided to pass up the traditional sit-down dinner for a time of mingling, exploring the historic venue, and munching on southern-inspired hors-doeuvres. After scouring a stack of southern cookbooks and emailing back and forth with the caterers, our menu is in close-to-final form.

What would a southern-themed wedding be without cheese straws?! If you’re from the south, you know just how important these are to an event (and by “an event” I mean every event from baby showers to birthday parties!) When people first arrive at the reception, we’ll have cheese straws, fresh fruit, and Vermont cheese set out.

Next up, we have a delicious line-up of southern delicacies planned:
- Pulled Pork Bruschetta with a side of Coleslaw
- Shrimp and Grit Cakes topped with Roasted Red Pepper Purée
- Ham Rolls with Poppy Seed Dressing (pictured above)
- Bourbon Chicken Skewers
- Crab Cakes with Mango and Cilantro
- Cinnamon Baked Apples
- Seared Peaches wrapped in Prosciutto
We’ll also have Spinach, Feta, and Pine Nut Pastry Cups and a few salad choices. Makes me hungry just writing about it!

Last up, we have arguably the most important component of the menu: dessert, of course. We’ll have a traditional tiered wedding cake, a groom’s cake, and mini lemon berry tarts (similar to the ones pictured above except 2″ in diameter!).
Let’s eat!
